In 2023, I was able to commence a series of free workshops in my local community to introduce people to the world of floral art – specifically to give them an opportunity to be creative in a safe, happy, accessible environment.
Supported by a business prepared to offer a no cost venue for weekly workshops, I planned a 20 week trial of this exercise to assess both interest and viability.
From the first announcement, there has been a backbone of those choosing to attend every week for 20 weeks, whilst others have selected sessions that fit in to their work schedules/rosters and other commitments. The age range of those attending is mid 30s to 85 with a geographic pull of a 45 kilometer radius.
For the travelling workshops, my plan is to carry out 4 workshops per month – 2 on a Friday and 2 on the following day (Saturday). This would allow for attendees to plan around their interests as well as make use of the efficiency of logistics for educators and resources.
The proposed plan for the Junee/Young area (where I have already had interest shown through regular floral demonstrations in Cootamundra over the past 6 years) is as follows:
24, 25 May 2024 – Gift Toppers, Wreaths, Flower Crowns, Bookmarks
21, 22 June 2024 – Living Cards, Bouquets, Bracelets, Napkin Rings
19, 20 July 2024 – Table Centres, Hairpins, Garlands, Coasters
23, 24 August 2024 – Headbands/Fascinators, Candle Stands, Mobiles, Picture Frames
20, 21 September 2024 – Hoops, Jewellery, Scandinavian Wreaths, Christmas Decorations
